My work is an echo of life’s changes with a strong emphasis on breaking points. The subjects matter often deal with sudden disasters, the passage of time or the apathy into which we slowly abandon ourselves. I am interested in the imagery of everyday life and mundane objects. Combined with a false glamour and a certain degree of rusticity, my work tends to question notions of utility. I also use the lack of information to open these “utilitarian sculptures” to new blurred narratives. The notions of chaos and fantasy are combined with those of absence.
Loriane Thibodeau is an artist whose current base camp is on the island of Tiohtià:ke/Montreal (QC, Canada), but who proudly grew up in the tiny village of Sainte-Félicité-de-L'Islet (Chaudière-Appalaches, Quebec Province, Canada). Holder of a Diplôme d’études collégiales (D.E.C.) in crafts - ceramics specialization and another D.E.C. in crafts - sculpture specialization (CEGEP Limoilou and Maison des métiers d'art de Québec), she also has several experiences in production and internships in Quebec province and abroad. She is currently pursuing a BFA at Concordia University. For the past 13 years, she has given various courses and workshops. She is also teaching at the CEGEP level, in Quebec City and Tiohtià:ke/Montreal.
In parallel to the questions about the contexts of visual and public arts contexts that underlie her individual practice, she pursues research with different groups of artists (Caravane BLING BLING!, Collectif En Étrive, METAcéramique). She is particularly interested in public art and is very involved in her community, notably by being a member of the board of directors of the Rozynski Art Centre (Way's Mills, QC).
