In this work, the concept of being a facilitator of learning is explored through a playing card style motif. In the image, the artist attempts to convey the sense of feeling like a student while trying to be the teacher, and attempting to view as a teacher when a student. With a circular motif showing up both as the color wheel and the faces of the two connected figures, the artist endeavors to show their personal struggle to be both the student and the teacher within the same paradigm.
Sydney Sequeira is a 22 year old Montreal based artist and art educator in training, born in Montreal and raised in New Providence, NJ. With a fascination in the fine arts since a young age, they drew and built throughout their childhood, and began working with the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey at 14 as a volunteer, eventually working their way up to camp counselor, artist’s model and studio assistant until the day of their departure for Concordia University. As a childcare worker, they bring their talents in drawing and education to the children they watch, and enjoy the ability to aid the young people they work with in meeting creative goals for personal projects and developing as young artists.
