I am Tarlan Lotfizadeh, an interdisciplinary artist. I was born in 1984, in the midst of Iran-Iraq war in a small family. As a teenager I found great interest in the subject of physics, which led me to studying physics in the university and I got my BSc in solid-state physics in 2006. During my university years, I started practicing analogue photography and learned developing black and white photos in the dark room. Spending long hours in the dark room, gazing at images coming to life, under the red-tinted light, also developing found photographic films and making prints of them was more than enough to make me utterly keen on pursuing art with more intensity. It also inspired me to carry on with studying art history, with a focus on contemporary art; theories and critics review.

Additionally, my major in physics has equipped me with a perspective that is traceable in my art projects. Each project unfolds itself to me in a manner of problem-solving. For each project, I initially spend hours and days on research and studying different aspects of the subject; I use archives, statistics and found objects in my works.

The progress and how each project evolves is very important to me. As each project unfolds, then I tend to focus on choosing the language which can perfectly translate my work, which is why my projects are carried out in a variety of mediums.  I barely limit myself to any specific medium. Also, I am very particular in choosing the details of my works.

As I go through the subjects, I tend to process them through the lens of my own experiences, which gives my projects an autobiographical characteristic.

Since 2013, I have participated in several local and international exhibitions and festivals.
